Super Macacao! - Rethink Hot chocolate

This is one of those recipes that I had to share as soon as I tried it, because it can't go wrong, and more people need to know about it and make it!

It can be made hot or cold, but personally, I like a cup of hot cocoa no matter what season of the year it is. It has been raining profousely in Mumbai, and I'm loving sipping on this while I work or catch up on my reading. 

My Super Maca-cacao recipe, as you might have guessed, is packed with nutrients from superfoods that will keep you energized, uplift your mood, and give you an overall sense of wellbeing. It is a great substitute for coffee because it's got  maca and cacao, both natural stimulants providing great  energy. A fell good drink! 

Maca is known as the Peruvian Ginseng and is largely grown in the barren and treeless regions of Peru. This is a region that endures drastic temperature fluctuations, from intense sun, to fierce winds, to freezing temperatures at sunset. A region where not much can grow well ...but Maca does!

But here's the interesting part - just as the maca plant adapts and adjusts to these fluctuations in temperatures in the region it grows, when ingested, it amazingly has a similar (adaptogenic) effect on our bodies, (yet  again proving that We are Nature!).

Maca is an adaptogen, which means it helps balance hormones, reduce stress, and helps maintain a state of biological equilibrium. Research shows that maca's adaptogenic compounds directly support the adrenal glands to help regulate hormones, enhance energy and provide a sense of wellbeing. All this without having the side effects of caffeine. It is also rich in nutrients like potassium, calcium, magnesium,  and high in protein.

Cacao is one of the best sources of magnesium found in nature and also contains high amounts of calcium, zinc, iron, copper, sulfur and potassium ( among other nutrients too ). Cacao contains many natural chemicals that enhance physical and mental well-being, including alkaloids. proteins, magnesium and beta-carotene. A true super food that is so delicious!

  1. Heat the almond milk in a saucepan until its warm.

  2. Add in all the other ingredients, except honey.

  3. Whisk well till all the powders are incorporated.

  4. Pour into a mug and then stir in the honey.

  5. For the "cold version" I still like to warm the almond milk slightly so that all the other ingredients can be easily incorporated. Then you can go ahead and blend it with some ice and honey. This way is pretty amazing too!

Enjoy your macacao drink preferably in the day time or as a replacement for caffeinated drinks because its going to make you feel GOOD and ENERGIZED ! 

Note : Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a mexican twist to this recipe!
